Recap: You're Beautiful - Episode 2

Drama: You're Beautiful (미남이시네요) 
Episode: 2

We're back to the scene from last episode when MN and the rest of A.N.Jell are sleeping like... well, angels. :B Everything is great. Until of course, the girl who had her heart set on becoming a nun rolls over only to faced by three violently attractive (and in Jeremy's case half naked) young adult males sleeping next to her. Needless to say, she freaks out a little, and wakes Jeremy up in her haste to get the hell out of the room.

Discovering her lip is split open, she tries to remember exactly what happened last night, and suddenly flashes back to falling on someone and kissing them by accident. Panicking, she attempts to recall exactly whose lips broke her fall. Unable to remember anything further, she clasps her hands and imagines she's back at the convent, and all of this was just a bad dream. Jeremy interrupts her organ accompanied reverie as he bites into an orange and scolds her for her clumsiness last night. She stares at his mouth as he sloppily chews and wonders if those were the lips she fell on. He quickly snaps her out of it by grabbing her face and telling her to go apologize immediately, meaning the victim was someone else. As he stalks off he observes to himself that MN's skin is "way too silky" for a guy, and wipes his hand on his shirt in uncomfortable confusion.

MN enters the house to see Shin Woo sitting at the counter, who offers her some tea to make her feel better. Assuming he was the one she kissed, she apologizes profusely until Jeremy once again stalks in, reprimanding her for having tea when she was supposed to be apologizing. Realizing the truth, she listens in shock as Jeremy and Shin Woo recount exactly how she fell on Tae Kyung, kissed him... and then puked on/in his mouth, which the germaphobe then proceeded to faint from. Oh dear god.

In the meantime, a shocked A.N.Jell fan club watches an online video showing both TK and MN being carried to the van, unconscious, and Sa Yu Ri blames the new addition to the band for the trouble. These fans could either turn out to be really annoying and ruin things or eventually extremely helpful.

Tae Kyung, also with a bloodied lip (I guess she fell on him really hard?), shudders as he remembers the events of the night before. Just in time to be greeted by his bad mood, a timid MN tries to enter with some tea and a scented candle to calm his nerves. How manly. No, really, you're not going to get caught at all pulling shit like that. He snaps at her, again reminding her that she always does things he hates, and stalks off to the bathroom to take a shower, leaving her shocked behind him. TK appears to regret his harsh words momentarily, but shakes it off, seemingly angry at himself for even caring.

As TK brushes his teeth far too aggressively than is really necessary, MN decides to leave the tea anyway, but on her way to his desk some wax from the candle drips, and in her haste to clean in up, she bumps into a nearby bookshelf... which proceeds to topple over. TK showers in the other room as MN weakly holds the shelf up, desperately trying to put out the now hazardous candle on the floor to no avail. She can't seem to push the shelf back up on her own, and blowing on the candle from so far away has absolutely no effect. Somehow she manages to turn a fan on, blowing papers dangerously close to the flame. Finally she decides the only way to put it out would be to spit on it.

Something TK unfortunately witnesses as soon as he walks out of the bathroom. "Did you just.. spit... in my room?" A sheepish MN attempts to duck under his arms as he traps her against the shelf, but he orders her to stand and starts ranting, shaking the shelf until things start falling. Like, say, a small statue on top of MN's head. Which knocks her out. TK freaks out a little, not actually having wanted to hurt her, and picks up the statue in a panic just as Jeremy, Shin Woo, and Manager Ma enter because of the racket. And what they see is an unconscious MN, and TK appearing to have tried to bludgeon her with some sort of award. He quickly explains he didn't do it on purpose to the unconvinced audience, and MN is rushed to the hospital in an ambulance.

Waking up on the way to the hospital, a confused and dizzy MN, once the situation's been explained, points out that going to the hospital would immediately reveal her secret. Manager Ma, who apparently did not even think of this, orders the ambulance to stop and patches MN himself in a nearby park. TK calls Manager Ma to check on MN (aww, he DOES care), and the manager spouts a load of nonsense about how severe MN's injuries are and passes the phone to MN. TK asks where in the hospital they are... turns out he's there. It doesn't take long before TK realizes they're big fat liars and not at the hospital at all. Especially when a vendor starts yelling about eggs.

As MN and Manager Ma arrive back at home, an irritating reporter approaches them and cheerfully questions MN about the rumors -- and after seeing her recent injury, about how it happened. TK walks in just after this, and seeing the look on MN's face, the reporter assumes TK was the one who injured MN, a fact MN hastily disputes.

Jeremy later watches cheerfully as he orders his dog, aptly named Angelina Jolie, to lick MN to death. He again scolds her for starting trouble for the band, and a dejected MN wipes dog slobber off of her face and heads inside. She encounters Shin Woo, who gives her the idea to at least clean up TK's room to make it up to him, which she starts to do.

As she sorts through the various crap on the floor, she comes across many albums and movies featuring the same woman, Mo Hwa Ran. As she muses he must be a fan, TK enters his room, asking what she's doing there NOW. He snatches the albums out of her hands and heads straight for President Ahn as MN scrambles after him, TK demanding they get rid of her immediately. President Ahn waves him off and MN is left in TK's dust yet again with a nasty comment.

Meanwhile, the fans turn on MN, convinced she is the cause of all the trouble coming to A.N.Jell. MN asks Manager Ma how bad it could possibly be, and he demonstrates by dropping his jacket from the roof, yelling that it belongs to Go Mi Nam. The crowd of "angels" proceed to stomp and tear the jacket to shreds like starving dogs on a strip of bacon as MN makes a pained expression from above.

MN begins to question whether she is really cut out to pose as a pop star, even for her brother. She too is convinced she's ruining everything, something Manager Ma immediately denies, trying to keep her spirits up. We then see group of middle aged women reading the newspaper, one of them adamantly insisting Go Mi Nam is her nephew and munching Bugles while the others roll their eyes, not believing a word. The woman continues to brag, and we're left wondering whether she's telling the truth or just a little.. touched.

At the hotel TK is now staying at due to his disaster of a room (just clean it, you big baby) and more importantly, the presence of MN in his house, a glamorous woman arrives -- the woman who watched the press conference in the first episode, and also the woman on all of TK's albums. The two encounter each other and take an uncomfortable elevator ride, where it is revealed the woman, Mo Hwa Ran, is actually TK's mother. He recalls having to pretend he didn't know her when he was a child in order for her to maintain her career, and icily tells her it would be pointless for her to pretend she knows him now that HE'S famous. Mommy issues. She tries to soften him up, remembering when he used to call her mom. "Back then I thought everyone who gave birth was a mother," he snaps before leaving at his floor. Ouch.

In a meeting with President Ahn, it's decided that Go Mi Nam needs more exposure, so his first performance date has been moved up. MN panics, following Manager Ma and Wang Kko Di out and asking much too loudly how much longer she was supposed to pretend to be her brother, not excited in the least that she is on the verge of becoming extremely famous. Manager Ma shushes her and assures her everything will be fine before leaving. A thoughtful Shin Woo watches (and listens) from up on the roof, muttering to himself. "So that's what it was.." Later talking with Jeremy, Shin Woo remembers the night before when he was helping MN to the van. Holding her up (and checking her out, really), he noticed something strange (two somethings?) and felt her pulse -- girls' pulses being faster than guys. It seems the suspicions he had last night were just confirmed -- Go Mi Nam is a girl. He doesn't share this with Jeremy, however, who comically describes MN as being "too soft and plushy" and "he makes you feel bad".

Preparing for her big debut as a star, MN struggles in a photo shoot with a rather overenthusiastic photographer, eventually relaxing and throwing out a bunch of fairly girly poses. She looks like a model, which is great. If she didn't look like a FEMALE model.

 

As MN struggles with learning dance steps (pop idols have to be able to do anything and everything, folks), the fans take a turn for the worse, harassing her each day as she comes home.

Wang Kko Di tries to cheer MN up, convinced she can pull it off and tells her not to care about what people think. TK and President Ahn chat via video conference, once again arguing about MN. Just as President Ahn excuses himself for a bathroom break, MN begins to master the dance steps in the same building and her confidence takes a boost, despite one of her.. balls falling out of her pants. Yeah. She has makeshift balls.

MN is dragged into the nearest room -- the room President Ahn was just in -- and Wang Kko Di gives her a pep talk about her fake.. erm.. package. TK, still on the other end of the video conference, completely misunderstands both their dialogue and their actions as Wang Kko Di starts to undo MN's pants. Pretty freakin' hilarious. I was already loving it, but I fell COMPLETELY in love with this show from this scene on.

TK freaks out even more when they shut off the lights. Also.. her balls start glowing. Glow in the dark bouncy balls, folks. Gotta love 'em. It's a wonder no one has figured it out before this, what with her clearly female singing voice (there's feminine and then there's blatant GIRL) and glow in the dark balls falling out of her pants all the time. Not to mention her FACE. After they turn the lights back on, they brilliantly decide to discuss both how to properly tie her balls on.. and how no one will be able to tell MN is really a girl. TK, of course, hears everything, and even starts recording some of it. And then he starts getting mad. I wonder to myself why they didn't see HIM on the screen on the other end of the video conference, but whatever.

Tae Kyung seems to get angrier and angrier as he drives to the dance studio to confront MN. Bursting into the room and heading right for her, most people seem to assume he's about to hit her, but he just stands there staring for a minute before pulling her into an abrupt hug. A.K.A. The Discreet Feel Up. His suspicions confirmed (she's clearly not wrapping them up well enough, this is the second time it's given her away), he steps away just in time for President Ahn and the reporter from earlier snap a picture of their "reconciliation". TK follows President Ahn out, again listing the many reasons why MN should not be part of A.N.Jell -- except, surprisingly, the most obvious one. Again President Ahn disregards this and runs off.

The guys learn the showers downstairs are broken, so they're moving upstairs. Jeremy discusses the possibility that MN is really dirty, since he's never seen her shower yet. Shin Woo wonders to himself how she HAS been showering at the studio all this time. Turns out, MN is showering upstairs. Where a bunch of guys are headed. As she's getting dressed she hears them approaching and ducks around the corner. Which I don't really understand, because she already had her shirt on and everything. But instead of just leaving, she leans against the wall and averts her eyes. She begins praying in her head to Mother Abbess, an imaginary version of whom conveniently pops out of a nearby locker.

She encourages MN to not be ashamed and just think of the guys as the same as the naked baby angels on the church ceiling, which she does, somewhat creepily until Jeremy interrupts her thoughts. A knowing Shin Woo throws a towel over her eyes and steers her out of the room, but her smile soon disappears when she sees TK has been outside waiting for her. "I know your secret," he announces to a dumbstruck Min Nyu. Uh-oh.
